Wedding License Information
An important step in your wedding planning checklist should be to find out what the requirements of obtaining a Wedding License are in your area. Some basic requirements, instructions, and tips, are the following:
- You must go together to get your license
- Find out about blood test requirements
- A license costs approximately $70
- Bring proof of citizenship: birth certificate or passport
- Don’t get your license too early, since it’s only good for 90 days
- Check your officiating minister to see when he needs to have the license. It’s usually given to the Officiating minister the night before the rehearsal and is signed by two witnesses. The witnesses must be at least 18 years of age.
- You should fill out the pink form that will come with your license. This pink copy gets you a Certified Copy of your wedding license. The cost is approximately $13. Whether or not you are planning to keep your maiden name, it is a good idea to get a Certified Copy.
You will need a Certified copy for the following reasons:
1. Wedding License
2. Bank accounts
3. Credit cards
4. Social Security Administration
5. Insurance policies
6. Medical policies
7. Car registration
8. Tax records
9. Passports
10. Voter registration
The officiating minister will send in pink copy along with the wedding license. It takes approximately four to six weeks to get a Certified Copy of your wedding license.
